5 Fun Ways to Exercise for a Better Night’s Sleep

Exercise is good for the mind and body -- it controls weight, combats health conditions and boosts energy. But did you know regular physical activity can also help you fall asleep faster and deepen your sleep? One reason is exercise diminishes stress levels, which reduces restlessness and makes it easier for the body to enter a relaxed state.

Here in Madison, WI we have many fun ways to exercise. Check out some of our favorites:

Walk: UW Arboretum: explore nature and exercise at the same time! Walk or hike trails across 1200 acres of prairie, fields and forest.

Bike: You’ll get a great work out when you pedal around the city, and beyond, on the many bike paths throughout Madison. Find a path or plan your ride at the City of Madison.

Yoga: Check out the Wellness in the Gardens series of yoga classes at Olbrich Gardens, a beautiful setting to restore and rejuvenate your mind and body.

Swim: If you love to swim, a water fitness class could be the perfect exercise. Try Aqua Boot Camp or Aqua Zumba at the Monona Public Pool

Gym: The YMCA offers something for everyone – cardio, weights, pool and lots of fun classes from Pilates to Family Hula Hoop.
